Girl's Day Out!

110_5044Today I was able to spend all day with my dear friend, and now soon-to-be maid of honor, Meredith!

We left bright and early this morning for the Pregnancy Center where we spent a good while sorting through clothes and other donations. After that, we had to run to the Center's storage unit to look for size 3 diapers because we were out of them in the Boutique...alas there were no size 3's. :) Goodwill was next on our list of things to do! We had to drop off some items for the Pregnancy Center's director. By that time...we were starving!

After lunch we needed to make a quick trip to Wal Mart for some quilting supplies. We wanted to add an extra outer border to our quilts, so we spend about an hour in the fabric section trying to decide on what would look best. Meredith was smart and brought her quilt into Wal Mart so she could actually know what she's looking for...while I tried to remember what my quilt looked like. :) We grabbed a few yards and some quilt batting and headed off to our next destination...looking at wedding/bridesmaid dresses. :) Now you're talking!

Of course we had to stop in a thrift store on our way. :) What is a girl's day out without a thrift store? And you never know...we could've found a great deal on a dress! It doesn't hurt to check! Well we then parked downtown and decided to walk to two bridal stores. Unfortunately, modesty doesn't really seem to be "in style" as far as wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses go...and everything there was pretty much covered in sequences and sparkles! She and I both joked and said that now we at least know what we don't want! We grabbed a smoothie to make us feel better. :) We did see a lot of colors for her dress that we liked and that were perfect for fall though! A couple of shops later...she and I made the long drive back to my house.

As soon as we got here, she and I finished up the first big borders on our quilts and then got to work cutting out the second border. I'm so glad we decided to add an extra border to the edge! Without it, the quilt was just about full size. Now it's a queen size.

Our quilt tops are pretty much finished except for a little bit of appliqueing. I can't wait to actually begin quilting the layers together!

Thanks Mere for spending the day with me today... I enjoyed every minute of it. :)

And thank you so much for being my maid of honor! You are such a blessing!

An Unexpected Blessing!

106_4445Don't you just love unexpected blessings? :) Today, Mom and I drove out to our friends, the Kilpatrick's, home for a visit and to drop off some skirts that I had made. We had a wonderful afternoon of fellowship! I enjoyed an afternoon walk with my friend Hannah, playing with their three kittens, stamping Mother's Day cards, and spending time with the kids while the moms spent some time with each other.

As we were getting ready to leave, Mrs. Kilpatrick surprised me with many beautiful dishes that she no longer needed. I think most of them are from Okinawa, which I believe is a small island off of Japan. I have the perfect place for them...in my hope chest. :) I love the blue plates and bowls because they remind me of the toille design that you see in all of the old colonial and country decor...my favorite! I can't wait to use them! Thank you Mrs. Kilpatrick!

Lately, Eric has caught some sort of strep throat-type bug, and tonight I have an awful headache (which is what Eric had at first). :) Hopefully we are not all getting sick! Maybe it's just allergies...I hope! Ah, it's that time of year. :)

The Quilt Show

Yesterday (Saturday) Micah, Meredith, and I had such a wonderful time at the quilt show in Hampton, VA! After the loooong two hour drive, we finally arrived at the huge convention center in Hampton. When we were in the parking lot, we saw many license plates that said things relating to quilting and sewing, so we knew we were in the right place. :)

Micah and Meredith

There were a lot of venders at this show selling all manner of things for any sewing project you can possibly imagine. My favorite part was getting to see all of the quilts on display! Here are some (many) pictures from our day:

Yes, this is a quilt :)

Micah and I

This one reminded me of the sampler quilt Meredith and I are finishing.

Mere in front of hers

Me in front of mine

Whew, that's all the pictures! We had so much fun! There were almost too many things to look at with all of the colors, designs, fabrics everywhere, and hundreds of people...so inspiring! :) I really enjoyed it! Seeing all of the beautiful quilts has motivated me to work even harder on my crazy quilt that I started and my sampler quilt. Thanks so much Micah for letting us know about the show! And thanks Mere for driving! I would've gotten us lost big time. :)
